Installing ArcMaster

Some requirements

ArcMaster runs on all 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/NT4/2000/XP). Win95 needs at least Service Pack 1, NT4 needs at least Service Pack 5. ODBC support has to be installed. To produce certain outputs, the program uses Microsoft Excel. The Excel macros run in Excel 97 or later.

Installation steps

Download AMInstall.exe (about 10 MB, extracts to about 23MB). The newest version (4.0) can be updated by downloading the program executable.

ArcMaster has been created using Centura application development system and InterBase database. That should explain the rather large size of the installation package. Our server is an old 200 MHz Pentium and behind a 10Mb/s bottleneck, so please be patient and try again, if the download does not succeed immediately.

When you run AMInstall.exe, you should see the dialog

install

Click Next button in the opening windows, change the destination directory if necessary. When the files have been copied, the database installation starts. Press Next/Yes buttons, until you see the following dialog:

bdeinst

Only the two first options are really necessary, all other options can be unselected. Click Install.

When the database is ready, the ODBC driver intallation window opens. Click the Install button. After a few seconds you should see the following dialog:

odbcinst

Click OK. Click Finish. Almost done! When you start ArcMaster for the first time, you may see an error message

nodb

In that case the database server has not started automatically. It could be started by booting the computer, but it's quicker to select Start/Programs/InterBase/InterBase Server Manager:

startdb

Click Start and run ArcMaster again. Now it should work. The database contains results of the 2002 Finnish indoor and European championships. You can examine the data, but you can't change anything. That's intentional, updating competition data is allowed only when logging in with the original arraging club's user name.

If you want to uninstall ArcMaster, first uninstall the ODBC driver by running ArcMaster\uninstall.exe. Then remove the InterBase database using Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs. Finally, run Start/Programs/ArcMaster/Uninstall ArcMaster.
